Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) earned a Wecycle certificate for its successful collection of recyclable e-waste.
Although SSV has had various Wecycle collections before, this year’s collection was the most successful by far. The students, teachers and BSN community managed to collect 681 electrical items in just a couple of months!
The local paper Voorschoten Nieuwsblad reported this week that a total of 206 schools, including the BSN, took part and together they collected enough e-waste for Wecycle to sponsor 285 socially isolated children on their birthday. Wecycle donated 10,000 euros raised by the ‘scholenactie’ to a charity called Jarige Job that in turn sent a birthday box to these children.
The e-waste has been recycled and kilos of carbon dioxide emissions have been prevented - a win-win situation. We would like to say a big thank you to the four IB students in Year 12 that organized this initiative and spoke to other year groups in 7 separate assemblies.
