There are many opportunities for students to become involved with music and perform - through the junior and senior curriculum, as well as through the Co-Curricular Activity Programme.

Students of all ages have the opportunity to become involved in choirs, orchestras, bands and ensembles, with regular concerts being organised to enable students to perform.

Music at Junior Level

Music is taught by specialist teachers from the moment the children start school and it soon forms an integral part of school life.

Each Junior campus has acoustically designed music rooms and an impressive range of musical instruments and equipment at their disposal.

Students of all ages have the opportunity to become involved in choirs, orchestras, bands and ensembles, with regular concerts being organised to enable students to perform.

Music at Senior Level

Student in media suiteSenior School students benefit from an extensive music technology suite, with individual terminals and keyboards for composition and music technology work.

Both Senior campuses have fully equipped recording studios and practice rooms for instrumental teaching.

All students in Years 7 to 9 receive music lessons and a considerable number then elect to continue with the subject for GCSE and beyond.

Instrumental Lessons

The BSN runs a comprehensive instrumental lessons programme. Tuition is available on a diverse range of instruments, with specialist teachers working at all four campuses. Lessons take place during the school day and after school.

The fees for the instrumental lessons are payable on a termly basis; invoices are sent via email to parents by the Music Administrator at each campus.

ABRSM Exams

Students are encouraged to take their music-making as far as possible and have the opportunity to take ABRSM music exams. ABRSM is the UK's largest music education body and the world's leading provider of music exams.

In addition to the practical exams, many students take additional theory lessons following the ABRSM syllabus.

Music in the community

We have strong musical links with the local community. The BSN Community Choir - made up of staff and parents from across the BSN - rehearse every Wednesday, and have taken part in a number of large-scale performances.
