After a two-year hiatus, we were delighted to be able to gather together once again to host Performing Arts Week (28 March-1 April)! Performing Arts Week has become somewhat of a tradition at the British School in The Netherlands (BSN). Every year, in the Spring Term, students (and staff!) perform through music, dance, singing and acting throughout the week – all to raise money for a good cause. It is a wonderful community event, highlighting the BSN's sheer talent (and creative effort)!
A Celebration of Performing Arts: Music, Song, and Dance
This year, Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL) and Junior School Vlaskamp (JSV) sang, danced, busked and acted up a storm! Students, staff and parents enjoyed performances, both solo and as a group, from students playing the piano, guitar and drums, demonstrating everything they’ve learned in their peripatetic music lessons. Year group choirs entertained with their beautiful renditions of classics like ‘Viva la Vida’ and ‘Yellow Submarine’. In addition, Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL) students had the opportunity to participate in a dance workshop – even the staff joined in! – as well as a drama workshop.
On 29 April, Junior School Diamanthorst (JSD) will be joining in on the musical fun by hosting a busker’s corner during their popular Family Friday initiative – inviting both students and staff to take the stage!
Helping Others in Need
Like every Performing Arts Week, the goal was to raise as much money as possible for a good cause. This year, our aim was to raise money to go towards our cross-BSN collection for Giro555, a Dutch-based organisation of 11 national charities working to help the people of Ukraine. To date, the BSN has raised over €7,300 in donations, which will directly benefit Ukrainians in need. The money raised during Performing Arts Week will be added to the BSN’s collection.
It has been a wonderful experience to see so much artistic and musical talent from our students, staff, and parents! We are incredibly proud of our entire community for making the week such a success. We can’t wait to see what next year will bring.
