Once again, a group of hardworking student reporters from both Senior School Voorschoten and Leidschenveen transformed the Boerderij into a buzzing newsroom for BBC Young Reporter News Day on 6 March.
From pitching ideas to researching, conducting interviews, filming, recording audio, writing and editing (in all mediums) the students took ownership of every step in the process of publishing news.
Throughout the day reporters, working in teams and individually, created an article on a topic of their choosing, many of which featured self-generated interviews with students and staff, original videos, podcasts and photographs. Reporters produced articulate and eloquent pieces spanning a broad array of topics, from a critique of Brexit, to sustainable fashion, to sexism in language and the expat bubble (to name only a few).
While working on their news stories, the young reporters recorded had their say in the video “Matters that Matter” on the biggest issues that they feel are facing young people today.
The dedicated group of student reporters and editors worked incredibly hard to produce high-quality content and meet their publishing deadlines. Thank you to all of the students involved, as well as the teachers and staff, for their time and dedication to making this day a success.
Special mention goes to the following reporters who received a ‘Star Reporter’ award:
- Commitment: Aminata (as someone who has participated for three years and often writes individual pieces, as well as participates in a group).
- Team Player: Erin and Elizabeth for supporting others and sharing ideas.
- Impressive Article: Sophie on gender and language; an outstanding piece of reporting by one of our youngest reporters.
