Year 6 students get a taste of Senior School during transition mornings.
Transition Mornings are an opportunity for Year 6 students from all three Junior Schools to experience a morning in the life of a Senior School student. Hosted at both Senior School Voorschoten and Leidschenveen, students were able to see the schools for themselves, visit classrooms, meet teachers and ask questions about day-to-day life at the senior schools.
It is important for Year 7 students to develop independence and responsibility for their learning, belongings and schedule. The visiting Year 6 students were challenged to keep to the schedule for the morning, manage their time during each activity and be responsible for their iPads and personal belongings while moving from room to room. Teachers were on-hand to ensure students they are welcome to ask questions, and should not be afraid to ask for help when they need it.
Nerves turned to excitement when the students experienced some of the active and challenging classes available at the BSN Senior Schools. They were introduced to computing with a Digital Discovery session, getting their first look at Canvas while exploring the schools. They also rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on in Design Technology and Food Technology, working together to follow recipes and complete design challenges. Students also got a taste of more advanced courses, such as carrying out some basic experiments in the chemistry laboratory.
The benefit of the transition mornings was easy to see. Gaining experience within the Senior Schools whilst building excitement for the opportunities that are to come helps ease the transition for these students. We can’t wait to see this cohort become the newest BSN Senior School students next Autumn!
