The British School in The Netherlands (BSN) is delighted to announce that the Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL) campus has received the Global Inclusion Award from the International Forums of Inclusion Practitioners (IFIP) for their Sensory Room initiative.
Rebecca Van Homan, AEN Lead Teacher at Junior School Leidschenveen, worked closely together with the school's concierge team to create a unique Sensory Room for the students at JSL, offering additional support to students with sensory needs.
On JSL's Sensory Room:
"Children can use the Sensory Room with a staff member to give them a sensory break, a reset moment, which allows them to feel more settled, calm, and ready to learn.
By supporting children’s sensory needs and creating sensory spaces, we can enable students to engage with and access the curriculum."
- Rebecca van Homan, AEN Lead Teacher at Junior School Leidschenveen
JSL's entry for the Global Inclusion Award also highlighted the work of our Student Wellbeing and Behaviour Coach, James Morris.
Both are wonderful examples of JSL's continued work on fostering an inclusive classroom and school environment.
This is a mark of sincere respect, admiration and high praise for your efforts, attainment and leadership in changing this world to be more inclusive. It is an honour to have read your submission and to count you and the work you have done as an awardee of the IFIP.
- Daniel Sobel (Founder and Chair of IFIP)

The IFIP Global Inclusion Award ceremony will be held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris to recognise 30 years of the Salamanca Statement for inclusive education.
Huge congratulations to Rebecca van Homan, the JSL AEN team, and every member of the JSL staff involved in making the Sensory Room a reality!
