To mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), students at the BSN came together to raise their voices in many of the languages of our multicultural community and stand up for human rights.
In honour of this anniversary of the UDHR this month, the United Nations has launched the Stand Up for Human Rights campaign. People around the world are called on to “add their voice” to the campaign by promoting, engaging and reflecting on what the declaration means and the impact it has on people around the world. Supporters are invited to get involved by submitting videos of themselves reading any of the 30 articles of the UDHR in their native languages, spreading the word on social media, sharing stories and pledging to support the human rights of all people.
The contents of this declaration, as well as the celebration of all people’s cultures and languages are important to the values that we seek to instil in students at the BSN. Students from our three junior schools and two senior schools got involved in learning about the UDHR in class and at home and translating articles into their home languages. In the end, students from every year group contributed to a video in which all 30 articles of the UDHR were read in many of the diverse languages of the BSN.
This project helped facilitate a conversation within the BSN about the UDHR and the impact it has on people around the world. It was also an incredible opportunity to bring the many languages of the BSN together, celebrating the diversity in our school while also reaffirming the fundamental human rights of all.
Thank you to the EAL teams, teachers, staff and leadership across the BSN for helping bring this project to life. We hope it continues to have an impact on our students, the entire BSN community and beyond.
