It’s become somewhat of an annual tradition at The British School in The Netherlands (BSN) – the City-Pier-City (CPC) Loop (CPC Run)! On 12 March 2023, BSN students, parents, and staff participated in the 47th edition of this iconic The Hague running event. (Did you know that the first CPC Run took place in 1975?) The popular event attracts a whopping 35,000 visitors from all over the Netherlands each year!
Around 500 members of the BSN community took part this year: close to 350 students from across our four campuses, Junior School Leidschenveen, Junior School Vlaskamp, Senior School Leidschenveen and Senior School Voorschoten, over 100 parents and over 30 members of BSN staff. They each ran the 1K, 2.5K, 5K or 10K, with three brave members of staff running the Half Marathon! Our youngest runners ran together with their parents, who took on the role of running coach for the morning. While the weather got off to a slight drizzly start, luckily, running conditions soon improved for the 10K, and we even had some sunshine!
We’d like to give a special mention to Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) student Muireann, who was the first girl to win the 2.5K race with an impressive time of 10:04! Congratulations – what an incredible achievement.
Muireann on her win:
Winning the race felt great! I was very happy with my result of 10:04 for the 2.5K. I felt proud and overjoyed when I crossed the finish line.
“This isn't the first time I have competed in an athletics competition - I do athletics and am the indoor national champion for the 600m.”
All of our BSN runners did brilliantly and wore their medals with pride following their race. Well done to everyone in the BSN community who took part this year.
A big thank you to BSN colleague Catherine van Renen for coordinating the event for our students, as well as to the BSN staff, parents and students who volunteered their time.
We’re already looking forward to the 2024 edition!
