It was wonderful to welcome (back) students, families and staff to The British School in The Netherlands (BSN) for the 2023-2024 school year. We started off strong with our annual Welcome Day event on 1 September.
A warm welcome to our new BSN families
Our Welcome Day event took place at all four of our campuses: Junior School Leidschenveen, Junior School Vlaskamp, Senior School Leidschenveen and Senior School Voorschoten. Providing an opportunity for students and families to visit classrooms and class teachers, meet classmates and tours campuses, the aim of Welcome Day is to hopefully ease some of the first-day nerves ahead of Monday! The day was followed by a ‘gezellig’ barbecue at our Leidschenveen and Senior School Voorschoten campuses – a chance for new families to get to know each other and BSN staff.
The day wouldn’t have been possible without our fantastic Admissions Team, as well as the support of the BSN Family Association, our campus staff and our student volunteers. Thank you, also, to our partners Zein International Childcare and The Hague International Centre for attending the event.
The first day of school
We understand that first days can evoke a whole mix of emotions, whether students are new to a class, campus – moving from Junior to Senior School – or to the BSN. That’s why we invest time in ensuring the transition for our students is as smooth as possible. Like in previous years, our campuses have planned a whole host of activities aimed at helping students to get to know each other and to feel settled, such as themed ‘Family Fridays’ (Junior School Vlaskamp) and student socials (Senior School Voorschoten).
We have carefully planned our induction back into school to ensure that there will be many opportunities for building relationships, finding connections and ensuring all children feel happy, confident and ready to learn!

A first for Senior School Leidschenveen
This year marks a milestone for Senior School Leidschenveen as they welcome their very first cohort of Year 12 students, and, with this, their first Sixth Formers! We wish them the best of luck as they embark on this important period in preparation for their final exams.
To all of our students, families and staff – we hope that you have a wonderful year ahead!
