At the end of March, students from JSD took part in the COBIS Creative Challenge competition and submitted a 4 minute video about the Hague. Only a few weeks later, we discovered that we had won the Runner Up award for ‘Best Production’ in KS1!

During the first week back in January, a group of Year 2 children were asked the question, “What do we know about places to visit in The Hague?” We discovered that we knew very little and so began our research. They worked in small groups to find out about wildlife, food, attractions and places of historical interest and visited many of these places at the weekends. We practiced our photography skills, recapping how to take a good photograph and then put these skills to good use, taking photos of the places and things we saw. We came up with a rainbow theme as a way to showcase all the different things and sorted them carefully.

The children wrote their own information sentences, improving and editing them with support from their peers, before taking home a section to learn. Many of the children worked hard at home to express themselves in both English and their Mother tongue, if this was different. We used Adobe Spark video tools to create the video, easily editing and adding in sounds, photos and snippets of video. Finally, we presented the finished video to our parents, including explaining our learning process.

We have been recognized for our hard work by the award of Runner Up for ‘Best Production’ and couldn’t be happier with the result! Well done to all our children and a big thank you to parents who helped us by visiting different places in The Hague.
