Planning for the TEDxYouth@BSN event has been well underway; the theme has been selected, venue confirmed, external speakers chosen, vendors in place... but one important detail had not been set: the student participation for the event. This is why the Pitch Night at Senior School Voorschoten, truly made this event come to life.
On 28 September, over 30 students stood up in front of a panel of four judges, their peers, teachers and parents to 'pitch' their idea worth spreading, perform their talent or pitch to be a host for the event. It was inspiring to see students from Year 7 to Year 12 take to the stage and share something that is important to them. Each student had something unique to offer and impressed the audience immensely. It definitely made the decision process quite difficult for the judges.
We are still waiting to announce the students who have been selected, as the junior schools will have their turn to pitch tomorrow. Once everyone has had their turn, then we will announce our student speakers, performers and hosts. Of course, even before we publicly announce who has been selected, we want every student who was brave enough to stand up to know that we commend them for doing something that most people wouldn't even dare. That in itself is indeed an idea worth spreading.
