Over the weekend 6 of our top SSV debaters travelled to Spain to compete in the COBIS World Debating Championships hosted by the English International College of Marbella. On Friday they enjoyed a trip into Marbella Old Town to experience some Spanish culture and take a break from some intensive prep sessions before the real competition that took place over Saturday and Sunday.
Our team performed fantastically well in the face of stiff competition and made it to the final 8 before unfortunately being knocked out in the quarter finals. The whole team learned a huge amount and gained great insight into the debating style of different international schools as well as the pressure of competition. A special mention goes to Chioma Herler in Year 11 who received top marks for style in her delivery.
Well done to all involved and a huge thank you to both COBIS and the EIC teams who were wonderful hosts and great competitors.
