On Friday 4 September, The British School in The Netherlands’ (BSN) welcomed more than 250 new students and their families at their respective campuses for an introduction and orientation before the start of the 2020/21 school year on Monday, 7 September.
The Headteachers and staff were on-site to welcome each family and students were given the opportunity to meet their new teachers, get acquainted with their new classroom, and explore the campus facilities. From the jungle-gyms to the music rooms to the science labs (depending on what sparks their curiosity!) students now know where to go and have familiar faces to greet them on their first day on Monday.
What brings you to The British School in The Netherlands?
The Welcome Induction is a wonderful opportunity to hear from our new families where they have relocated from and what brought them to The British School in The Netherlands.
Ms Muhammed Salim, a new BSN parent, shared her reasoning for choosing the BSN:
“The British curriculum provides the most comprehensive learning for the children. We come from a different country, so it is important for our children …to learn in an English medium, and of course, at the same time for them to learn the Dutch language.”
Ms Muhammed Salim
We chose the BSN as we wanted a school that shares the same values as we do. We asked around and were recommended The British School in The Netherlands…we visited and we absolutely loved it! The location, the space, the way it is set up and, importantly, our kids fell in love with it!
Mr Okunowo, JSL parent
Welcome to the #BSNCommunity
Heath Monk, BSN’s new CEO, shared what it was like to be new to the BSN:
The BSN’s values are demonstrated through the warmth of this week’s initial welcome: whether that’s in the personal relationships that our teachers foster with students and their families; in the exceptionally high standards that our staff hold themselves and our students to; or in the value that is placed on our students’ wellbeing and the diversity of lived experiences. It is a joy to be a part of this community.
This was echoed by a Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL) student when she shared her feelings during the Welcome Day,
“I like how the teachers are nice, how we have nice places to play and how we can learn interesting things, and you don’t need to be scared to come here even if you are new because there are lots of new children here and you don’t need to be scared or lonely.”
Thank you to the BSN Admissions team, campus office and support teams, teachers and returning student volunteers (who kindly volunteered their last day of holiday to welcome their new classmates) for a day filled with warmth, smiles and support.
