Last year a tiny seed was planted at the BSN: our very own TEDx event. And what started as a small idea, a simple plan, grew into an amazing event full of big ideas worth spreading.
Yesterday, 9 November, TEDxYouth@BSN took place and to say it was a success feels like a momentous understatement. The intention of the event was to provide a teaching and learning opportunity for the students. What we didn't realise is how much everyone involved would gain from it. Seeing students take the stage and give a talk, or take the lead and volunteer their time -from backstage help to handing out lettuce! No job was too small, and no help was unnoticed.
From the stage, the audience was treated to the ideas and words from 17 different speakers. Junior School talks (#TrustTheCrust), Senior School talks and the 6 guest speakers all amazed and impressed everyone watching in the hall and on the live stream. Speaking of which, the live stream even had its own viewing room in a school in India! Talk about a #BigBOLDWorld!
Also gracing the stage, there were original song performances from two Senior School students, covers by talented musicians, a moving drama piece and a physically moving gymnastics performance! There was entertainment for everyone, and everyone seemed to enjoy the lineup.
It's important to note that the execution of this first-time event would not have been possible without all of the helping hands on deck. Over 40 student volunteers were able to participate in ways that interested them; students were able to sit with the sound and lighting crew to shadow them, others assisted the stage management backstage or helped out in the atrium during the Interactive Session. The positive energy of the crew was apparent to even the quickest of passer-bys.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible. Every step of the way, the outreach and support across all four campuses truly made TEDxYouth@BSN the astounding event that it was. In every sense, it truly was a red letter day.
