We are delighted to welcome Heath Monk, who has begun as the British School in the Netherlands’ (BSN) new CEO as of this month.
Heath was appointed following a robust selection procedure, including interviews with students and staff at all levels of the organisation. Applications from around the world were received for the role.
Announcing Heath's appointment, Chair of the Board of Governors, Peter Bayliff said:
‘Exciting times are ahead for the British School in the Netherlands, and in Heath we believe we have someone who is steeped in the leadership of educational institutions, has strategic oversight and who will bring his rich experience of running 11 diverse schools, with 10,000 students.’
New BSN CEO, Heath Monk said:
‘The British School in the Netherlands is a world-class school, and it is a real privilege to have been appointed as its CEO. I was very much impressed by the teaching and learning, by the facilities and by the wide range of co-curricular opportunities when I visited the school, as well as the warm welcome that I was given by everyone I met.'
‘I have always wanted to work in an international context and my family and I are delighted to have the opportunity to work and live in the Netherlands.’
Heath Monk Biography
Heath is joining the BSN from being the Executive Director of the Schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham in the UK, where he has implemented the successful transition of nine separate schools into a consolidated Academy Trust, as well as overseeing two independent schools. He is a member of the board of the Birmingham Education Partnership, Windsor Academy Trust and the Place2Be advisory group.
Previously, Heath held the role of Chief Executive of the Future Leaders Trust (London). As Deputy Schools Commissioner at the Department for Education, he wrote and coordinated the Government White Paper on ‘Higher Standards, Better Schools for All’.
Heath was an English teacher and Assistant Housemaster in Sevenoaks School and a teacher at Bennett Memorial School. He graduated with a first in English Language and Literature at Oxford University, before going on to do a PGCE at Sheffield University.
