JSL spent weeks preparing to celebrate this milestone. Classrooms were decorated, activities were planned, old photos were dug out of the archives, and memories were shared. When the big day finally arrived—on Thursday 13 February—students were thrilled to discover two enormous bouncy castles in the sports hall. (Surely no birthday party is complete without at least one?)
Karren van Zoest, Headteacher:
“JSL is such a wonderful community of people, who are committed to ensuring every child has the chance to real their full potential. It is a privilege to be the Head of a school where 'Head Hand and Heart' is truly valued by everyone. After 10 years, we are proud to celebrate that JSL's warm atmosphere and supportive ethos is as strong as the day it opened in 2009.”
Special guests (including current and former staff, Governors, the Chair of Governors, and other members of organisations within the community) were invited to join the celebrations. An amazing display of photographs, spanning the decade, had been compiled for the occasion.
The celebrations closed with a special whole campus assembly. Former, and Founding Headteacher, David Porritt, shared entertaining stories about the formation of JSL. He was joined in his reminiscing by Headteacher, Karren van Zoest, and Teacher, Sarah van der Linden, who were also there from the very beginning. All students sang an original happy birthday song composed by Music Teacher, Gillian Weinberg. Of course, there was a cake to finish!
We are excited about the next 10 years and the growth of Senior School Leidschenveen, which will bring students aged 3-18 together on one campus. This will mean an easier transition from Junior to Senior School.
