On 25 September, we marked the European Day of Languages by celebrating the many languages and cultures from all around the world represented at the BSN.
With over 80 nationalities and more than 35 language groups represented at the BSN, every day is a celebration of the wonderful experience it is learning and living alongside so much diversity. While students are always encouraged to share their home language and culture in school, the BSN made the European Day of Languages an extra special celebration of our multicultural school.
Senior School Voorschoten put on the annual Language Village, inviting Family Association International Team members to create interactive market stalls for students to test their skills and try out speaking new languages with native speakers.
Learning about other people’s languages and cultures helps to build a mosaic rather than a melting pot – it prevents individual identities from getting lost. – Year 12 Student
In the Junior Schools, students celebrated through sharing stories from around the world. Junior School Diamanthorst invited students to bring in their favourite book in their home language to share with classmates. Students were able to become the teachers, showing their books to their friends and teaching new words in their individual languages. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to share their cultures and be proud of their identities through language.
Thank you to our Modern Foreign Language and EAL teachers, as well as our classroom teachers, staff and family association members for making this a special day!
