Making Music - Alumnus Kevin Doucette Shares with Students

Music Alumni

Here at the BSN we are fortunate to have access, through the Alumni Association, to a large number of ex-students all over the world who have been successful in a variety of different career areas.

Amongst those ex-BSNers are many who have expressed a willingness to help our present day students as a way of giving something back to the school in return for what they themselves received here. A good example of this occurred on Friday 10th June at SSV. Kevin Doucette (Class of 1998), Queen’s University, Canada and Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA, is an established figure in the world of composing music for movies and video games, for both the iconic AR Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire composer) and under Kevin's own name. His newest project being released this month is music composition for the film Pele, about the football star of the same name.

Coming from Shanghai, then a month in India, via London and en route to Paris, he was able to interrupt his busy routine and call in at SSV to give talks to Y8 and Y9 on the exciting, unreal, amazing world of films, Golden Globes, Hollywood, Slum Dog Millionaire, John Williams and life on the sun-drenched West Coast of the USA. Not only was his talk stimulating and informative in itself, a delight to listen to, but he also gave the audience a number of hints and pointers worth knowing if they felt drawn towards a similar career path.

He even invited students, if they wished, to submit their own compositions to him personally for advice, a remarkably generous offer from such a busy man. Kevin's visit was an absolute highlight for lots of young (and not so young ) people at the BSN.

For any alumni who would like to support the current students, one of the best events for this is the BSN Careers Network Dinner scheduled for 23 September 2016. This evening brings selected alumni in to share their valuable insights and experience on university and carreer choices.
