The Year 8 Geography fieldwork trip to the Keukenhof saw over 160 students and staff spread around the park on Tuesday all busily collecting primary data. Despite the most recent dry and sunny weather the flower displays were still spectacular and everyone was suitably impressed by the colour combinations. Fortunately the weather was kind to us and we were able to complete all the tasks.
Students were kept busy producing sketch maps, counting pedestrians and conducting questionnaires to find out where visitors had come from. Some students overcame their initial shyness and interviewed many more visitors than was necessary. With visitors from all regions of the world our students were able to use their own language to converse with the tourists.
The chance to have some fun together at the playground at lunchtime went down well and as usual our students were a credit to us. Our thanks to the staff who volunteered to support us and those who covered our classes. Field trips like this are an essential part of the Geography curriculum at all stages and the data generated will keep Year 8 busy processing and presenting for weeks to come.
