The Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC) 2019 results, just released, are impressive with six students studying Hospitality, led by Kathy Moore Head of Food Technology (FT), achieving the highest grades possible – Distinction*! All students studying Business BTEC achieved pass or merit. Michelle Cooke, who leads on IB and BTEC programmes and James Lloyd, Head of Sixth Form, indicate that hopes are high for outstanding results in the Creative Media Production course in July 2020.
The British School in the Netherlands (BSN) is the first and only international school that offers such a wide range of Sixth Form options allowing students to tailor their learning to their individual needs and aspirations. These options include BTECs, A Levels, International Baccalaureate Career Programme (IBCP), International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and mixed pathways. The BSN expanded its BTEC offer even further this school year for students moving into Sixth Form, now being able to opt for Hospitality, Business and, new in 2018/19, Creative Media Production. This year some students chose to take BTEC as their single programme in Business leading to an extended diploma which is equivalent to three A levels.
Headteacher, Paul Topping, is delighted with outcomes and said, “Some students have already confirmed their university destinations from Maastricht to Swansea, with one student securing a place in the prestigious Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI). Others await the publication of the A level results in August which, combined with their BTEC qualification, will secure their places. The flexibility of our Sixth Form curriculum offer means that we are in an excellent position to tailor programmes of study to individuals’ needs and aspirations.”
Alongside A level, BTEC Nationals are the most widely-recognised UK qualification for admission to higher education. Across a range of sectors, BTEC Nationals equip students with the specialist knowledge, practical skills and understanding they need to progress along their chosen learning and career paths.
BTECs can be studied over one year, resulting in a certificate qualification (equivalent to one AS level), two years leading to a diploma (two A level equivalent). Students can combine a BTEC with one or more A levels to make a hybrid programme of study, and some include a BTEC qualification within IBCP programme.
BSN Student wins BTEC Student of the Year Award
In June 2019, The Netherlands BTEC Awards were held as a joint initiative between Pearson and BTEC centres to recognise the most outstanding students and the exceptional work done by centres. The ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and dedication shown by BTEC students and to recognise their potential in their future career path.
We are delighted to announce that a BSN student, Teo, was awarded "The Netherlands BTEC Student of the Year Award" in recognition of his outstanding work and commitment to the wider community. Teo is a shining example of a vocational student, using his learning to better the lives of other people, in particular through his work at the homeless shelter. Additionally, he has significantly influenced the way in which the school uses recyclable materials at social events, ensuring a sustainable impact that will benefit the school community and environment for many years to come.
