The British School in The Netherlands

The Senior School

The BSN Senior School is situated in Voorschoten, on the outskirts of The Hague, and provides a stunning, state of the art learning environment for 950 students from all over the world.

We understand that every student who comes to us has their own dreams and expectations for their future and it is our job to identify and unlock their potential to achieve them.

The rich multicultural mix of students influences the whole learning environment both in and out of the classroom and adds an extra dimension to our school community. Within this international setting, we instil, in all our students, open-mindedness, tolerance, integrity and an enjoyment of life.

Curriculum choice

The academic programme at the Senior School is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales but has been adapted to meet the needs of our international student body. At age 16, students sit the internationally recognised qualification of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSEs). Post age 16, students can choose to follow either English A Levelsthe International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme. The BSN is the only international school in the Netherlands to offer this choice. Both staff and students at the Senior School have considerable experience in helping those who transfer into the school to settle in quickly and become part of the community.

Encouraging success

We provide a supportive environment where students are encouraged to succeed and to respect one another and the world around them. We foster confidence and intellectual curiosity and provide opportunities to develop creative abilities and personal talents. Opportunities for new and exciting experiences abound at the school. Playing a full and active role in both the school and the wider community is valued highly and all students are encouraged to participate fully in the rich co-curricular programme on offer. Educating the whole child is our goal at The BSN and nowhere is that more evident than within the Senior School.

1-to-1 iPad Programme

In Year 6, students are required to have an iPad to support their learning - tablet devices lend themselves to the way young people interact with the world; they are simple and intuitive. Our 1-to-1 iPad Programme allows students to learn from a variety of sources and develop critical digital literacy skills.
