Science in the Sun at Cross-School Science Day

Junior Sciences

Year 2 students from all three of the BSN Junior Schools came together this week at Junior School Leidschenveen for Cross-School Science Day.

Year 2 scientists were helped along in their investigations by Year 5 students, who organised stations around the JSL play area to carry out experiments and demonstrations. Science passports in hand, Year 2 students went from station to station, where they were asked to make a hypothesis and test it through hands-on experiments – sometimes finding surprising results!

Some of the day's activities included testing methods of making the biggest bubbles, asking if water and oil could mix, testing how different surfaces affected the motion of toy cars, and creating flying toys out of paper and straws. Every activity was hands-on and got the Year 2 students actively involved in the entire process.

After all of the investigations were completed, students reflected on the day's activities with a well-earned ice lolly. Cross-School Science Day is a wonderful opportunity to get students involved in hands-on experiments which inspire them to ask questions about the world around them and get curious about why and how things work. It's also great to see the older students helping younger students in their learning process.

A special thank you to all the teachers involved in making this year's Science Day a hit, and to Year 5 Students for being excellent hosts and outstanding role models for the younger students!
